To the northwest of Saigon lay the world famous tunnels of Cu Chi. Here American and Viet Cong forces engaged in some of the most unusual warfare ever known to mankind: tunnel warfare. Portions of these tunnels have been preserved in their original wartime conditions. Guided tours of the underground tunnels, hospitals, mess halls and sleeping quarters are conducted. The recently completed Ben Duoc Temple on the site honors the nearly 50,000 Viet Cong soldiers who died here: all were from the surrounding villages and hamlets. After visiting the Cu Chi Tunnels the day continues with a visit to Tay Ninh on the Vietnamese-Cambodian border for a visit to the esoteric Cao Dai religious sect which honors, among others, Victor Hugo and John Kennedy as saints.

Ground Transportation: From Saigon.

Day 1 : Morning departure for the Tunnels at Cu Chi. Stop at points of interest en route. Tour the tunnels and the newly completed Ben Duoc Temple which has inscribed the nearly 50,000 names of those who died here on the walls. Continue on to Tay Ninh. Attend the high-noon service of the Cao Dai sect at their hold-see. The beliefs of the Cao Dai fuse Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and indigenous animistic religious beliefs into an amalgam of color and wonder. Return to Saigon. Free evening.
